Poverty and Food Shortages :: Famine World Hunger

There is a serious development that concerns not only hungry people but all of us. Food is becoming too expensive and food riots are spreading. There were tortilla riots in Mexico when the praise of grain became unaffordable which can happen again. Most countries have been able to feed their own but there is a fear that the millions of the unfed will come across borders to eat. If this happens those with food will battle to keep it from the hungry. Supermarkets will be forced to place armed guards in front of their doors and refrigerators will be padlocked. There are food riots going on at the present time in Haiti where the government was overthrown. Nobody can predict tomorrows costs of grain or rice. Many say it will double in price in the coming months. Over a billion Chinese people are now eating meat products that are grain fed. This is a result of an increase in their standard of living. They grow very little grain so more than ninety percent of all meat eaten in China is imported. This is one of the causes of the shortage of world wide grain. The Chinese people have a right to eat as much meat as they can afford. It would be ridiculous to ask them to curb their appetites for the sake of the hungry in other countries. We must look elsewhere for a solution. The rising price of oil is the main cause of rising grain costs. Harvesters and trucks that use oil have to pass on added expenses. A loaf of bread cannot be sold for one dollar when it costs two to produce. The hungry must eat but if they cant afford to buy bread who will pay to feed them? The best solution is to lower oil prices which will bring down the costs of grain production. This would bring to a halt world wide hunger. There have been many famines where millions have starved to death. The Ukraine suffered a man made famine less than seventy five years ago where over a million died of hunger.

Sometimes the government has to pay for this care. Who should be responsible for our old people? ESSAY There has been an ongoing debate for years about which one will care for the elderly. It would be argued that the government has to be responsible for the old people. Others would believe that the adult children have to take responsibility for their parents by themselves.Personally, I am convinced that taking care of the senior citizens is the responsibility of both the family and the government. On the one hand, people who dedicated all their life to build up their home deserve the best care from their children when they get old. It would be argued that it is expensive to support old people who have little or no income. In my opinion, it is a dogmatic statement and it goes against the moral values if family members abandon the old people because of those reasons. We should not forget that older people may financially and morally contribute the family when they were young.Their children have gained various things from them like financial security, moral values and so on. All family members need to respect the elderly people, make them feel happy and give them the best care. On the other hand, the Government also has to take the responsibility for taking care the old people. The old people may have done many things to contribute to the national budget like paying tax or working for free when they were young, so they should be received financial assistance from the Government when they get old.Government should give the elderly old-age pension or pay for the care in the nursing home where the old people live in. The Government can also provide subsidy to the poor members who live with elderly parents and invest more money in facilities and training for care workers in the nursing home as well. All things con sidered, the old people must be received the best care from not only the government but also their family members and society. Children have to look after their elderly parents well, and the government should support the senior citizens in many ways. (346 words)

In the 9th grade I was new to high school and was kind of scared with the new adjustments to school work, a new atmosphere, and so many distractions ahead of me. During the first quarter I had adjusted to the work load and stayed focus. One day my friends and I were talking about sports and it got me thinking about if I could manage school and sports. One of my friends suggested that I should try out for the junior varsity basketball team. Before high school the last time I played on a basketball team was in 4th grade, but it wasn’t organized. The tryouts for the basketball team were set for November 15th. For that month before the tryouts I worked out almost every day. As my senior year approached my knowledge of the game was at its highest and I was ready to excel for my final year of high school. Unfortunately with injuries and team problems, our season did not go the best, but things turned around when we got it together. We went on a six game winning streak heading to the playoffs and almost played in front of thousands of people at the â€Å"Comcast Center† but we lost in the regionals finals. After the season it was sad that it was my last time playing basketball for my high school team, but I was happy at the effort we showed. Things weren’t all bad because I meet my goal and finished off wi th a 3.5 GPA average throughout my senior year. Getting cut from the team in my freshmen year changed my life and it was a very pivotal moment. Failure taught me not to give up on anything because hard work will pay off.
